Chinese New Year is one of the most important and widely celebrated holidays in Hong Kong. My family and I love to decorate for Chinese New Year since it’s my parents’ favourite holiday and decorating is believed to bring happiness and fortune. So, every year, my mom and I have made lanterns using lai see packets (to symbolise good luck and express gratitude) to use as decorations or as a gift to family and friends. When giving the lanterns as gifts, I’ll add mandarins to represent best wishes for the recipient or flowers to represent growth and fortune.
