Artist Commentary:
Originally designed by Robert Lang, this piece of origami presents two humane figures of instrumentalists. The dark background combined with the cold blue lighting is aimed to illustrate a solemn atmosphere as if they are playing on stage.
The grand piano and the pianist are made by a single piece of rectangular paper, while the violinist was made from another separate piece of paper. The piece is quite challenging as the pianist’s section required careful manipulation of structure to shape and meticulous adjustment of angles.
The piece is quite abstract, as many human features are reduced, such as the violinist’s face, or the pianist’s hair. I do however find it elegant in how complex features can be expressed with simple geometric shapes.
